THM 4L60 (700-R4) - Electronic Speed Sensor Added To Trans

CHANGE: Electronic Speed Sensor added.

REASON: The Speed Sensor provides an extremely accurate signal which is used by the ECM to provide anti-skid braking. The Speed Sensor and Rotor replace the speedometer adapter and speedometer drive gear (see Figures 2 and 3). Current usage is on C trucks with 4.3L, 5.0L, 5.7L, (Gas) and 6.2L (Diesel) engines. This change went into production July 17, 1986.

PARTS AFFECTED: 1. The speedometer adapter and speedometer drive gear are replaced by the Speed Sensor (99) and Rotor (699). See Figures 2 and 3.

2. Output Shaft (687), has an added groove to remove and install the Rotor. See Figure 4.

3. Transmission Case (10), the orificed cup plug installed in the governor bore which provides lubrication to the extension housing bushing when the Speed Sensor Rotor is used, see Figure 1. This lube was normally provided by the spinning speedometer driven gear teeth throwing oil to the bushing. When the speedometer gear is replaced with a Rotor the forced lube of orificed cup plug is needed.

INTERCHANGEABILITY:
1. The new Speed Sensor CANNOT be used in previous models.Sensor.............................................................................
2. The new case with the orifice cup plug can be used on regular speedometer, 1987 models only.
